NH Social Venture Innovation Challenge

July 16, 2019

It often feels like we are flooded with negative news about the inability of national and world leaders to collaborate and tackle our most challenging problems. As a result, we tend to overlook our own ability to develop innovative solutions to community issues.   The University of New Hampshire's Center for Social Innovation and Enterprise  (CSIE) recognized that many great ideas start locally, and created the NH Social Venture Innovation Challenge to help New Hampshire budding entrepreneurs launch their ideas to solve social or environmental problems.

What is The Social Venture Innovation Challenge?

As Alex explained in the above video,  this is a competition of ideas.  The community section is open to all New Hampshire residents and the entry process was intentionally designed to be super simple.  All that is required is submission of a 2-page proposal and a 3 minute video explaining your problem and solution.   Financials or business plans are not required. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday,  October 28, 2019.

Who are Past Winners?

As you think about possibly putting together a submission, you might find it helpful to look at past finalists' and winners' work at the CSIE's website.  Last year's community winner was "The Hive" submitted by Devon Crawford and Jack Nichols.

Have Some Questions about the Challenge?

Hopefully the videos have sparked your interest, and you have some questions.  You may want to start by reviewing  the competition process.  It provides more details on the nuts and bolts of entering the competition and eligibility requirements.  Next, read about how to plan your entry, which explains the requirements, judging criteria, and scoring rubric. It also has resources to help you get started, strengthen your entry, and hone your pitch. Wondering how it all got started?  Read about its history and philosophy.   If you have other questions or would like to talk to someone about the challenge, contact Changemaker Education Program Director Faina Bukher or Changemaker Education Marketer Cathy Meyer.

Grabs some friends and put on your thinking caps.  Hope to see you at the finals in November!
