Who is Celebrate Durham?

Last summer, the owner of Wildcat Pizza asked how "summer business" downtown could be increased. Talking with with business owners, a common thread that emerged was the central business district's image problem. Parking concerns and negative stories of student behavior had shaped residents' opinions, and they were shopping elsewhere.

Word got out and a diverse group of business owners, nonprofits, and town officials began meeting and discussing how to bring residents back downtown. As luck would have it, Parks and Recreation Director Rachel Gosowski had already scheduled the outdoor summer festival called Music on Main Street. Local merchants worked with Rachel, and the event was a hit. Not only did it draw a crowd downtown, it showed the power of promoting or celebrating our town.

The group recently developed it's mission statement.
