R.E.A.C.H. Summer Day Camps
Between the Cyclobombs of March and the cold lousy weather in April, it's easy to forget that summer vacation is just around the corner. If you're starting to panic about your kids' summer plans, the R.E.A.C.H. collaboration between Oyster River School District and Durham Parks & Recreation offers a great solution.
The R.E.A.C.H. program is a community based camp that runs from July 9- August 10, and has a morning ORCSD program and a Durham Parks & Recreation afternoon option. The morning program runs from 8:30AM-11:30AM Monday-Thursday, and the afternoon option runs from 11:30AM-5:00PM Monday-Thursday. All students are eligible for a free ORCSD lunch. Registration is due June 1 and can be done at sendmoneytoschool.com.
The morning ORCSD only option or the afternoon only Parks & Recreation option is $100 per week. A full day that includes both is $200 per week. You can find a catalog of dates and descriptions of program options at the Oyster River School District website.
Durham Parks & Recreation just purchased a brand new large passenger van, and that opened up a Friday Field Trip option. The trips run from 8:30 AM to 5PM, and range from mini golf and Blitz Park to an Island Kayak Adventure with Seven Rivers Paddling. The Friday Field Trips are $50 each, and to be eligible, campers must attend a least one day of R.E.A.C.H.
If your looking for something for the week between school ending and the start of R.E.A.C.H., Parks & Recreation is offering two camps for K-5 graders Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29. Gadgets and Contraptions runs from 9AM to 12PM, and Deep Blue Sea runs from 1PM-4PM. A supervised lunch is provide for those registering for both programs. Our summer camps will conclude with two outdoor adventure style camps, which are open for those ages 10+. Outdoor Adventure Week is new this year and will offer campers the opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy several of the amazing outdoor recreation opportunities here in our wonderful state. Each day will be a different adventure trip including, rock climbing/bouldering at Pawtuckaway State Park, stand up paddle boarding, floating the Pemi River, a wilderness survivor day and surf lessons at Jenness beach.
Adventure Paddle Camp will be our final camp of the summer and will be instructed by Seven Rivers Paddling. This camp will use Wagon Hill Farm as our home base for the week. Participants will be guided through basic paddling techniques, balance, self –rescue skills, general water safety, chart reading, navigation skills, team building and more.
